TOWN HALL AND CITY OPERATIONS

In furtherance of the State of Emergency declared by Governor Tate Reeves on March 14, 2020, as an in-part effort to reduce the risk COVID -19 spread, the Town of Mize is taking the following action until further notice:

* The Mize Library will be closed.
* Rental of meeting facilities will be suspended.
* Town Hall will remain open during normal business hours. Public access to Town Hall will be restricted. During this time all town departments and services will be fully staffed and available for communications via telephone and email during normal business hours.
*We encourage that whenever possible all payment transactions be placed in the drop box in front of the building, or paid via phone with a credit or debit card.
*If you are elderly or handicapped we will arrange outside service during business hours. If outside service is necessary, Individuals must immediately call before arrival and a staff member will assist them at their vehicle.

Most importantly, we should all remain prayerful.

Mayor Larry Joe Hancock

WATER ISSUES UPDATE

By 2 p.m. today, 1/14/2020, the water system will be back up and running with Mize water. Please allow time for our system to catch up. Thank you for your patience and we do apologize for any inconvenience.  Thank you.

WATER ISSUES

Sunday, work was started on the Mize water tower and the water had to be shut off from the tower. We are pulling water from Okatoma Water Association at the moment. If all goes well, we will be back to using our water tower Wednesday. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

Lost Pictures from tornado

LOST PICS

The attached pictures are family photos that were found in a residents yard after the December 16th tornado. If these are your pictures, we have them at the Mize Town hall. Our hours are 8 a.m. till 2:30 p.m. Also, if anyone has found family photos in their area please bring them to the Town Hall. We will post those pictures on the web site and Facebook for others to check. We at the Town of Mize wish everyone a very happy new year.

UPDATE

Mize residents, please remember that there is a temporary shelter at the Mize Fire Station. It has food and heat. Utilize this until the power is restored. The power companies are working hard to get the power restored. It can be frustrating when the power is out for more than a few hours and especially for days and with the cold weather it can be even more frustrating. Please show respect to the power company crews as they are working hard to restore power, and even tell them thank you for their hard work. They are trying to have the power restored by 6 p.m. This is an estimate so don’t be upset if it is not restored by then.

Garbage pickup will run as normal tomorrow, Thursday, Nov 19. Make sure your bags are tied so no loose material can fly out. Also, make sure the bags are not too heavy. If either of these occur the bags will be left in the container.

With no power to the Town Hall the office number is not working, so, if you have any questions please call Earnest Burton @ 601-613-1051.

Thoughts, prayers and the offer of help

We have had family, friends and neighbors touched by the tornado and the town of Mize is currently without power. There is a lot of damage and many have lost everything to include our very own Mrs. Ethel Austin and her husband Howard. Remember to keep all that have been effected by this tornado in your thoughts and especially prayers. If you have the capability, please offer your help. Let’s not go sight seeing so the power companies and highway crews can do their jobs safely. Also, remember that people are trying to recover items and your presence could be a hindrance.

Tornado assistance

For all that have been affected by the tornado, there is a temporary shelter set up at the Mize Fire Department.

MEMA and the Smith County EOC are set up at the Mize Fire Department.

If anyone is in need of tarp, to cover a roof, please contact the Smith County Sheriffs Office @ 601-782-4531.

NEW POLICE VEHICLES

The Town of Mize has purchased two 2016 Ford Explorers for use by the police department. These vehicles are sleek and sharp and add a flare to the town. As you see our officers patrolling the area let them know how much you appreciation them for the job that they do. Each of them works hard to keep the town and the residents safe.
